The 2010 official launch of the Green Ribbon Week was held in Wedza on the 2nd of June. This year's event was commemorated under the theme, " Many species One planet One future" and the slogan for the commemoration was , "One planet One life". In line with the declaration of the year 2010 as International year of Biological Diversity, the theme calls for everyone to conserve the diversity of life on our planet. The guest of honour was the Governor and resident minister of Masholand East Cde Chigwedere. In a speech read on his behalf the governor encouraged the community to desist fromstarting veld fires and cutting down of trees sighting that this contributes to global warming and climate change. The Member of Parliament for Wedza East Mrs. Goto said what the community is doing is very good in educating young ones around the area so that they grow up with the knowledge of preserving our environment. Mrs. Goto said they are prepared to work with the community in helping them market their products and this will help them get income for their day to day business. |

Mana Pools: Zimbabwe’s First Carry In, Carry Out Park |

Zimbabwe National Parks is proud to announce that beginning on Earth Day, April 22, Mana Pools will officially become a Carry In, Carry Out park. This means that park guests are kindly requested to take their waste (bottles, cans, stryrofoam and any other non-combustibles) out of the park with them when they leave. Biodegradable items may remain behind. Park guests will receive a complimentary refuse bag when they check in at Nyamepi and will be expected to show this bag to park rangers upon exiting the park. Failure to do so will result in a $100 fine. In adopting this policy Zimbabwe is leading the way for the whole African continent in modeling progressive park environmental strategies.  |

Earth Hour is a global campaign that engages cities, communities and individuals to take part in Earth Hour, by switching off lights for one hour at 8.30pm on Saturday March 27 and supporting action on climate change and sustainable living. In 2009, over 4000 cities, towns and municipalities took part.
