Raising awareness on key environmental issues among the general public is the first step towards empowerment and mobilising action. Environment Africa works to raise awareness among the public by running popular campaigns, holding competitions to encourage participation, and helping children to take action on environmental issues. EAfrica is recognised and approached by different stakeholders on issues to collaborate in campaigning and information dissemination.EAfrica raises environmental awareness and equips people for action through: • Women, youth and schools programmes. Activities include fostering good environmental policy in schools (see POEMS below); training teachers and developing and testing school based environmental educational curricula; competitions, such as the annual Enviro- Action Schools Competition, in which schools select and study an environmental concern and develop solutions for it. • Regular awareness raising, and action among all sectors of society. • Creating opportunities for informed debate and decision making on environmental issues. • Developing and sharing information materials, such as the booklet on How to Grow Trees.
